last master studies in SUTM internet course (season 2)
Frida Kahlo my way- "Frida living with pain" What hardships life gave Frida !
The multiply ways she lived her life to overcome her pain give me so much "food for thought" especially after reading her life story.
I have tried to use her techniques and Jane's prompts in this depiction -
I used as Frida did, Painting symbolism- skeletons in bkgd (her life and living was formulated by her skeleton system) her body small (health and accidents depleted her body) large head and face( without tears in coping with her pain she used drama, color and self expression through her painting as her coping mechanism .)
There is a "banderole " across her dress "living with pain" and her heart is on her sleeve.
(materials used journal page, Tombow watercolor pens, transparent watercolors, and stamp and ink)

Experimention and learning

took a 10 minute video course from Jane Davenport about usage of Dye-Na-Flow paints and Neon stamp ink by Hero Arts. Here is what I did with some of these and other supplies. It is fun to take out old supplies and test new ones...with anything always some thing new is occurring :)
page 1 Minimal art "the follies" (thinking of poster art--
page 2 Maximal art " Bonsai trees and scissor " thinking of the density of forests and the trees and  then the alteration of a tree by artist

Beginning a new Internet Art Course -"Studying under the Masters" Our first study is Gogh.
We learn so much about his process as an artist and his inner thoughts through the letters he wrote to his brother. Here is my example and study---It has been a wonderful opportunity to be an "apprentice" to the early Masters-they have filled my head with many new ideas and references to use in my art.

a time well spent!

Sept-Oct is usually a time over tne past 5 years when I attend an art retreat which I always look forward to, enjoy and profit from. This year, however, after thinking about the cost entailed (airfair, hotel room, retreat enrollment and art classes).
I decided to spend some of the money saved by buying art supplies, exploring books and enrolling in a few new internet courses which would introduce me to using new supplies and techniques
I also opted to try some of my own ideas using my art supplies (doing my own thing) which made me feel wonderful and acomplished.
I decided to spend the August/Sept/Oct taking inventory of my supplies and artwork, finish up past projects, organize such and see what I really had in the spare bedroom -art supply room.
I started  a journal listing of all the materials I had and what they are used for along with sample sheets. I also listed all the mentors, teachers, and peers art has brought to me. I have a sheet with the areas of creativity I have engaged in. I have a listing of art groups and internet classes  I am or have been a member of . I have listed art museums I have visited and sites of inspiration.
Buying new supplies and visiting art stores have inspired me just like the retreats did. I found community within the art stores the sales people and the other buyers-sharing of ideas like at a retreat.
Spending some time each day for the past 60 days in contact and engagement in my "art and creativity" has led me to new growth and inspiration.
I still use my kitchen as my art studio but after the past days organization and thought I have clarity in finding and understanding in using my art supplies.
I am sharing my experience of this time well spent with you and wondering if you would like or need to do this too.  I think, for me, as a not for profit artist but one who does it for joy and mediation and learning what I did was most helpful and renewing.

Redone--Did you ever create something and just knew it wasn't right. I did this college 3 years ago and found it in my art studio. Today I tried to make it right. Not great but feeling better about the poor thing :)

Welcome to all who are sharing their space of creativity via Speth's group
Here is mine.......
I often quote "my kingdom for an art studio" where space and disarray is not a problem!
I wonder if I had it would I be able to create in it-it would be such a dramatic change ..:)

I love how art allows me to express my feeling, thoughts, reflections at the minute or time I am experiencing them :)
