Who I am as an Artist

2019 is here- I spent the afternoon of the first of January thinking of my being and why I am a creative and visual person. I have concluded I have been gifted to be so.  We all seem to be given a special gift/s to counterbalance where we are not so gifted.

Also Ivy Newport's new internet magzine "Studio Works" first issue has lead me to "exploring my Creative self and practice.  I fully understand my nature now. I  a  process artisan.

My purpose and joy in doing art is to learn a process (which is play). Not for the purpose of a finished result. Often I am content to stop after reaching a certain point in my process.

I am an artisan because I have a small natural talent (which is essence). I work hard in doing my craft with a passion and readiness to learn. Hard work makes my art possible (which is effort).

I also like simplicity in art. So much art done today by non-master artists is so laiden with layering, embellishments and gimmicks.

Pictured is an example of my love of simplicity. It is plaster on canvas board with colleged mixed media, colored with copic pens and finished with gold gel pen and pearl add ons.

after many Internet sites Workshops with prompts and directives it was such a delight to do something with my own prompting and directives. Work of ones own gives such a special feeling (an expression of your own heart done with your soul).

An Internet class prompt that was not working out for me so I deconstructed it by putting another layer of different paints and gesso over -got to this point and left it "a foggy myriad of feelings unfinished."

Being of the young minded group of those in their late 70's I guess, I am a little sensitive of the characture of those my age when so many of us are so not the little old ladies depicted. As directed in an interenet group "Ladies with Character", I drew my faces and then studied them for a while to see what their activity would be. Hence "Mother and Daughter all decked out to go out for a good time together." ( the joy of a daughter in her 50's and a mother in her 70's being together...sand and

Summer time here and my gardens are full of rabbits I did a class prompt from From Pia

paint your heart and soul 2018  but deviated somewhat. I so liked the effect of the background as it stood alone . Lookng at it I thought of any entry to a garden so I decided to do the garden rabbit on a separate board outside the gardn . I have paired the two. This was a relaxing fun project

3 Klimt inspired art pieces
Darla Deiparine
My first a charcoal
The second pencils,pens and chalk

lastly my 3rd was done incorporating the many eras of Klimt's diverse art periods. Erotism (nude girl), trees, cottages, buildings,(landscapes combining water, vegetation and buildings) cottage gardens, forest pictures with, design elements, some cubism and blending of woman and floral
ornamention. He used a lighter hand and he looked at landscape as if it was a women. I used acrylic for this.on a 10x10 square canvas ( Kimt likied to use a square canvas -an atmosphere of peace he said.) I found he and I are alike in that we both like to do female studies.  I couldn't fit the water element in to the scene but I have imaged she has come out of the lake with her towel around her shoulders drying off :):)
